Post-It Your Affirmation

Here’s a great but simple way to remember your affirmations…Post-It notes! I for one am a true believer of the post-it note.

Why are they so effective? Because they come in a perfect size (little squares or longer rectangular ones) so that you can write down the necessary desire or affirmation you have for yourself. And the best part about it is, you can post them anywhere! Okay, I know that you already knew that one :)

But seriously, they work wonders because you can post them to your bedroom wall, your bathroom mirror, or even the kitchen fridge. Each time you walk by those things, you are constantly reminded of the affirmation. Constant repetition is key to impregnating your subconscious on these thoughts so eventually they manifest into reality.

To make them even more effective, you say them out loud every morning, night, midday…at least once a day. By saying it out loud, you get double reinforcement: reading it and hearing it from you voice!

Here’s a true story of a post-it affirmation:

For the longest time, I wanted to work for Sony. To me Sony had this nice to ring to it…this kind of prestige, especially it being a prestigious studio in Hollywood.

One day, I saw a job listing for it, and I applied thinking this was my way in. To help me, I wrote this on a post-it: Thank you Sony for hiring me! I looked at it everyday. I said it everyday. But there were no phone calls. One day I was hanging out with my mentor who worked for Sony. I mentioned I applied to this position and oddly enough, she said that the girl that needed her space to be filled was in her department. So my mentor gladly took my resume and referred me to her supervisors. Wow, I thought. This stuff is working!

However, a few weeks later, I still get no phone call. I finally wrote to my mentor asking if the position was still available. She broke the news saying they already had it filled.

I didn’t know what to think about this. I did my affirmations, I said them daily… What went wrong? I then started thinking to myself that maybe Sony wasn’t meant for me. So I wrote another post-it, and this time it said: Thank you for the best opportunity possible! I took down the Sony post-it and started crumpling it, about to throw it in the trash, when I stopped. I told myself no. I’m going to keep this post-it up and keep believing it its truths.

Not much long afterward, I get a phone call from the girl at Sony that needed to fill her spot. She mentioned that the person they hired didn’t work out. Actually they had another in line but that next person didn’t work out either. So then it was my turn. I was thrilled! At that moment, I realized the power of persistent prayer and/or belief.

So I went to the interview, and I realized that the job was not for me (administrative duties galore!) I also knew I didn’t want to start work until June (after graduation) and they wanted me to start in April…sorry but I planned to go to Argentina in May! Anyway, I was okay with not taking it because lo and behold, another opportunity popped up during the time I was waiting for that phone call from Sony. Remember, how I put up another post-it saying I want the best opportunity for me? Well, right after that I met with a VP over at a cable network. She really liked me and offered me a job…and one that could start in June. Umm, can I just say perfect opportunity for me?

At any rate, post-it affirmations work wonders. Even when it seems that it’s not happening it is. You just got to give it time to manifest. Obviously you cannot want things, and they appear out of thin air right away!

So here’s some pointers to remember about the post-it affirmations:

  • Buy some stickies
  • Write down your desire
  • Say them out loud, preferably once a day
  • Believe in it and nothing else
  • Wait for the glory to come

Also, you can be general or as specific as you want in your affirmation. The Sony post-it was a specific request. However, I put down “the best opportunity” in my next post-it. It’s more general, but your subconscious knows what is truly best for you. Sometimes the specific thing you want is not the best for you just like how Sony didn’t turn out to be the right fit. So choose wisely and keep it fun and fabulous!

Say what you want out loud, put it out there!

I’m a big believer of getting what you truly desire. But first you have to recognize that desire. And then you say it, and not just saying it quietly…SAYING IT OUT LOUD! Yes, hear your voice resonate in the room that you’re in.

Say that you have (fill in the blank) or that you are (fill in the blank again). Say it with enthusiasm! Sing a song about it…make up a song so you can hum it all day long!

Maybe it’s sounds too cheezy for you to do. I sure thought it was when I first heard this, even though it was a good way to fulfill your desires and dreams (and definitely a good first step). I mean seriously how bad do you want what you want? How bad do you want that change in your life?

By saying it out loud and proud (with no shame), you affirm to yourself and the world around that this is what you want. This is who you are. Importantly, if it is hard for you to imagine or grasp (b/c you’re not there yet), then this method is purely magic. Little by little, you start convincing yourself that you have what you want. The more you do it, the less the doubts and insecurities pop up in your mind.

You will triumph over the external and internal voice that says you can’t. It just takes time and patience.

So now you were thinking how things are going to change by saying it out loud? See, when you start believing in the affirmation you set up for yourself, opportunities start popping up. If you didn’t believe in it as true, the right opportunities wouldn’t even be on your radar screen. Plainly, you cannot be aware of the possibilities if you close your mind on the idea/affirmation in the first place.

It is by your conviction that you go out there and grab such opportunity and make the affirmation a reality. Plus, this works because it follows universal laws: the Law of Attraction or the law of action (saying it out loud) and reaction (your conviction gets you the result).

And you know what? It’s simple. Because you said so!

Here’s a personal story:

For months, I knew I was going to leave my crappy apartment down near the university. It was a poorly maintained building in a not-so-good neighborhood. But for 2 years, I kept saying to myself and to others (out loud) that I wasn’t worried. The next place I will get will be ridiculously better because that’s just how it worked in my mind. For 2 years, I assured myself.

Then time was winding down before my lease was up. I discussed with my roommate then (and now) how we were going to find a wonderful place and pay an amazing price for it.

Now, we’re in LA and almost everything we looked at in our price range was not good. Especially in the neighborhood we wanted. It seemed that it’s just not likely to pay the amount we set ourselves for a baller place (LA is expensive!) But that didn’t stop us from putting it out there that it was what we wanted. We even specifically said that was the price we’ll have. We even added the specific neighborhood we wanted.

To make a long story short, we are currently living in a beautiful house overlooking a lake. And paying a reasonable amount for the both us (the exact amount we expressed months earlier). AND in the neighborhood we desired. Life is good and we are both absolutely grateful :)
